Downloading Software
This is Total Net NH's Software Page. Downloading CAN be dangerous even if you
anti virus software installed on your computer. The sites listed below SHOULD be virus
free, however we can not guarantee that.
Tools for Downloads
In order to install the program that you download, you will most likely have to have a
program to un compress it (With the exception to some programs that will automatically
un compress itself and install itself. The bad side to these types of downloads are
that they are bigger, and take longer to download). Here are the steps you need to go
though in order to install a program:
-
Find the program you want on the Internet.
-
Click on the link that will download the file.
-
When it asks you were you want to save a file, choose a place that you can find
later.
-
After installing one of the decompressors listed below, you should just be able to
double-click the program you downloaded once you have found it on your computer to
automatically bring up the Install program.
-
If it doesn't automatically install itself, you should be given a list of files that
are contained within the downloaded program. Try to find, in that list, a named
"install.exe", "setup.exe", "Installer", or something to that effect and double-click
it. This should start the install process.
-
Once the program is installed, you can then close out of the decompressing program,
or any other windows that were associated with download. You can also either delete,
or save in an archive the file that you originally downloaded so that you either
regain the space on your Hard Drive, or keep the original program just in case
something goes wrong, in which case you can just reinstall it.
-
Always look for a README file (Which means the author of that program wants you to
read this file before you run his program) before running a program for it can
contain a list of known bugs with the program, or some important last information.
I know this sounds complicated, but after you have done it once or twice, you can
become a pro... well, almost at least.
Please choose what operating system you have so
you can download the correct decompressing program.

Feel like Chatting?
Listed below are various chat programs... the ones we list here are all free, but keep
in mind that they are in no way part of our service (So if something goes wrong, it's
not our responsibility to fix it). Also keep in mind that chat CAN be dangerous if not
used correctly. Adults should go over with their children about not giving out personal
information NO MATTER how nice the other person is (Especially your Real Name, Address,
or in some cases what city you live in).
-
ICQ - This is one of the
most used Internet Chat programs on the Internet. The only problem with it is that
its web page is VERY slow (You may get a couple of timeout messages before being able
to connect). It does has many very cool features like: lists of "buddies" (people you
talk to often in the program), notification when one of your "buddies" comes online,
LARGE programs can be transferred at a VERY impressive speed, search for chat rooms,
or have it randomly place you in a one, and much more! ICQ works on: Win 95/NT, Win
3.1x, Macintosh, Linux, and other systems.
