Apple really didn't get serious about the Internet until
OS 8.0 - for this reason, there are many different pieces of software
that can connect your computer to the Internet. What follows is
documentation for the most prevalent of the software: MacTCP, and
Apple's TCP/IP.
To find out which software you have:
- Click on your "Apple Menu" (upper left).
Choose "Control Panels".
In this listing, search for either MacTCP or TCP/IP and then click on it and
follow your set of instructions below.
Macintosh with MacTCP installed
- When the MacTCP comes up, click on the "More" button.
- Towards the bottom-right corner of the screen, you'll see two
rows. Take a look at the screenshot below, and fill in the names
and numbers as indicated.
- Now, go to the "File" menu and then go to "Quit". Make sure you save the
changes when prompted.
- Click here to perform the final steps.
Macintosh with TCP/IP installed
- Change the settings on the screen so that they look like the following:
- That is everything you need to do. Just exit out of that screen making
sure to save changes if you are asked. Your upgrade is now complete.
- Click here to perform the final steps.
Final Step: Configuring PPP or RemoteAccess
Again, depending on what software you are using, you'll click on something
different. The instructions below will work in either PPP or FreePPP. If you
do not have these listed, give us a call at 225-0038.
- Click on your "Apple Menu" (upper left).
Choose "Control Panels".
In this listing, search for either PPP or FreePPP and then click on it.
Insert your username, your password, and "225-0038" as your
phone number in the relevant spaces. Once you've done that,
close the window (by clicking the box in the upper left hand corner).
- If a window pops up that asks if you want to save your settings, you'll
want to click "Yes", "OK", or whatever the affirmative option is.
