Microsoft Outlook '97 is a part of the Microsoft Office suite as well as a seperate software product. It's a fully functional E-mail and News client designed to make communicating with other Internet Users easier through use of a simple, yet intuitive interface. The first thing we need to do is open your Outlook program. This can be done by clicking on it's icon in your Start menu, or by double-clicking the icon on your desktop. Where it is on your system differs, so we'll just assume you know how to open it... If Outlook prompts you to connect to the Internet, click on Cancel. You do not need to be connected to the Internet to configure your Outlook settings. From the drop-down menu marked "Tools" select "Services." ![]() Internet Mail should be available to you on this screen, so highlight it by clicking on it once with your mouse and then click Properties to configure Outlook. ![]() Fill in the Full Name: field with the name you want on your emails. Then, put in your E-mail Address (this looks like "yourusername@totalnetnh.net" without the quotes). You will want to fill in the rest as shown in the screenshot. Make sure your password is all lowercase letters or it will not work. From this screen you can also select Connection, Message Format and Advanced Options. You will need to make sure that Advanced Options and Connection are configured correctly. For now, click on "Advanced Options". ![]() Here you will need to set the Outgoing Mail Server to mail.totalnetnh.net ![]() Now, select the "Ok" button. You will be back to the Internet Mail Properties window. At this point, we will want to click on the "Connection" tab at the top of the window. Here, you need to make sure that Connect using the modem is checked as shown here. Also, Total Net NH should be in the Dial using the following connection field. ![]() Now, click the Login as button to check your username and password. Make sure these are entered correctly. ![]() When you have verified that they are correct, click the Ok button, then the Ok button (again), and finally, the Ok button one more time. You should now be back to your normal Outlook program... At this point, exit out of Outlook and then restart Outlook. You'll be able to check for new mail by selecting "Tools" and then "Check for New Mail". You're done! |
