Setting up Outlook '98
A
These pages are designed as a quick reference if you are experiencing problems with obtaining your e-mail from Total Net NH using Microsoft Outlook. This document may provide a solution to your problems if:
  • You're not receiving your E-mail,
  • You're getting mail returned to you,
  • People cannot reply to your messages,
  • You receive the same mail over and over.

Microsoft Outlook '98 is a part of the Microsoft Office suite as well as a seperate software product. It's a fully functional E-mail and News client designed to make communicating with other Internet Users easier through use of a simple, yet intuitive interface.

The first thing we need to do is open your Outlook program. This can be done by clicking on it's icon in your Start menu, or by double-clicking the icon on your desktop. Where it is on your system differs, so we'll just assume you know how to open it...

If Outlook prompts you to connect to the Internet, click on Cancel. You do not need to be connected to the Internet to configure your Outlook settings. From the drop-down menu marked "Tools" select "Services."

Internet E-mail - Outlook 98 should be available to you on this screen, so highlight it by clicking on it once with your mouse and then click Properties to configure Outlook.

On this screen, you will want to fill in the fields like the screenshot, substituting your name and email address for the examples we have provided. Once you have filled in your personal information, you should click on the tab labeled "Servers".

Fill in the settings as provided by the screenshot (making sure to check the correct boxes) and add in your username and your password. Next, click on the "Connection" tab.

Make sure to select your phone line as your connection to the Internet, and to specify the Total Net NH connection from the popup menu.

Now click the "ok" button, and then click the "ok" button again. You should now be back to your normal Outlook program... At this point, exit out of Outlook and then restart Outlook. You'll be able to check for new mail by selecting "Tools" and then "Send and Receive".

You're done!
