This is a tough question to answer in some cases. Fax software that is not made for Windows 95 can "over power" the connection you are trying to make with Total Net NH.
- The first thing you will want to do is check the Start-up folder. To do this, Right Click on the "Start Menu" (Which means that you click with your RIGHT mouse button as opposed to your LEFT mouse button), and then choose "open" with your left mouse button (Note: You should always assume that you should use your LEFT mouse button unless otherwise specified!)
- Once the new screen comes up, double click on "Programs".
- Now, with the new window up, find and double-click on "StartUp".
Tip: This folder (StartUp) is one of the folders the computer looks at every time the computer starts. Anything you put in this folder, the computer will automatically run when it turns on.
- Look though the icons and see if you have any programs that have to do with fax receiving and/or sending. Also look for any other program that may be affecting your COM ports (Example: COM-Manager). If there is, try contacting the manufacture of the program so you can make the right choices about uninstalling, or upgrading it.
NOTE: You can delete the program, HOWEVER... TOTAL NET NH CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES CAUSED BY THE DELETION! If you want to delete the program, just right click on it (That means use you right mouse button and click on the icon) and choose: Delete. That should delete it.
- The other option you have is when you are just about to dial, hit CTRL - ALT - DELETE ONCE! You do that be holding down the CTRL key and the ALT key with one hand, and hit the delete key with the other hand. You will then get a list of programs that are running. Close all of them except for the "Systray" and the "Explorer", So it looks like the following (NOTE: You may not have the Systray listed as one of the options)
Once they are all closed, choose "Cancel" (If necessary) so you are back at your desktop, and then try connecting again.
