The following steps assume you know your modem is working properly, and you can hear it actually dialing a phone number and attempting to connect.

1. Check to make sure that the phone number that your modem is dialing comes from this list.
2. Check baud rate.
3. Add modem strings.
4. Check for line noise.
5. Lower the modem speed.
6. If none of the above works, then start looking at your password, or network properties.
