- We will be modifying the TCP/IP properties in your control panels. To do this, go to your control panels by clicking on your "Start Menu", then "Settings" and then click on "Control Panel" (As shown here:)
- When the control panel comes up, double click on "Network"
- You should have now have a list in front of you with 2 or more items. Items that MUST be in this list are: "Dial-up Adapter" and "TCP/IP". Those are the ONLY ones that you need to connect to the Internet, so those are the only ones that will be covered in this help section.
Also, please note that if you have a network, or something to that effect, you may have more then one TCP/IP or other protocol. If that is the case, keep in mind that we are ONLY refering to the ones that end in: "-> Dial-up Adapter", example: TCP/IP -> Dial-up Adapter.
- Click once on the TCP/IP protocol so that it is highlighted and then click on the button named "Protocols".
- You will be brought to this window:
- Make sure that "Obtain an IP address automatically" is checked.
