Windows XP - Checking Your Dial-Up Settings

To verify the configuration values of your dial-up connection do the following:


Select from the Start menu: Settings / Network Connections.

You can also select in the Control-Panel: Network Connections.
Or (if you have the Classic Desktop): right-click on My Network Places
and select Properties.



Click on the right side in the category Dial-Up on your Modem connection,
that will change the menu for Network Tasks on the left side.
Select on the left side from the Network Tasks to Change settings of this
connection
.





Under the General tab you will be allowed to define/modify the phone number.
Choose a number from this list.




Under the Options tab you can control what is displayed during the connection
process.

You configure here also the options for Redial and the Idle Timeout: the time
an idle connection will be allowed to remain open before it is terminated.

Under the Security tab be sure Typical is marked off.

Nothing else under this tab should be marked off.



Under the Networking Tab you will need to check the Properties of the TCP/IP protocol.

Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the This connection uses the following items list.
Click the Properties button.



Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
Select Use the following DNS server address.
In the Preferred DNS server field, type 192.168.176.22.
In the Alternate DNS server field, type 192.168.176.33.
Click the OK button.




You are now done checking your Dial-Up connection settings.
Click OK. Close all windows.
