The following are the steps to be taken to check that your modem |
In the Control-Panel, select the System icon: ![]() (or right-click My Computer on the desktop and select Properties) Select the tab: Hardware and then use the button Device Manager |

In the Device-Manager, expand the section for
Modems. Right-click on your modem and select Properties |

Under the General tab make sure that the Device status is: "This device is working properly". If not, use the Troubleshoot... button |

Under the Modem tab you can define the "noise" level, which you modem makes during the connection process. Leave the Maximum Port Speed on its value. Leave the check-mark on Wait for dial tone before dialing. |

Under the Diagnostics tab click on the button Query Modem. Your system will then talk to the modem and display the command-set. You can ignore the display, as long it does display them. |

Under the Driver tab you will find a series of buttons to be used if Windows has problems using your modem. You can download new software drivers from the manufacturer of the modem which you can then use to update you modem. |
